Who are we?
IAFF, Local 3214
The Longmont Rural Fire Protection District was formed in 1978, to cover what is now known as the Mountain View Fire Protection District, with 6 career fire fighters. In April of 1989 the career staff of Longmont Rural organized into IAFF Local 3214 (Longmont Rural Professional Fire Fighters). This union organized for protection of their jobs because of the frequent turnover of Fire Chiefs, and instability of their jobs. The pay was one of the lowest in the state and the career staff had no say on the issue. In 1991 the name was changed from Longmont Rural Fire Protection District to Mountain View Fire Protection District when the towns of Erie and Dacono joined the District. The local changed their name to Mountain View Professional Fire Fighters to coincide with the name of the fire district. Local 3214 has fought over the years for health and safety, wages and benefits, and better working conditions. Our goal is to work with the Fire Chief and the Board of Directors to improve working conditions that affect firefighter health, safety, competitive wages and benefits so our firefighters can feel stable and honored to work at Mountain View Fire. We are proud to have 100% active membership in our local, which helps us maintain a strong voice. In 2010 we negotiated our first contract to improve wages and benefits. Please review the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) so you understand your benefits. Please feel free to contact anyone on our Executive Board for further information or questions.
